Hi! I am Joyce, a T-shaped designer.
Currently, I am a master‘s student of Human Centered Design and Engineering program at the University of Washington (UW). Prior to this, I received an M.A. in Education, a B.A. in English, and studied programming at the 42 School. My training across design, engineering, social science, and humanities reflects my passion for creative problem-solving. Humanities is the “heart” that drives me to seek purpose of my work, cultivating in me a genuine interest in humans. Design and social science is the “brain” that guides my actions through design thinking and research. Engineering is the “wings” that enables my passions to fly.
In the summer of 2018, I interned as a UX designer at Sogou, the second largest search engine company in China. Prior to that, I worked as a learning experience designer at a startup that uses VR to enrich learning experiences.
In my daily life, I am an adventurous “experience collector”. With genuine interests in humans and nature, I easily enter a flow mindset just by talking with people, hearing stories, or hiking in the woods. Some of the best experiences I have collected are meeting Mt. Rainier from a flight, looking for flying salmon, and taking pictures of shooting stars. I am also in the process of collecting different shades of blues and greens from lakes, and learning to parachute.
